My ValuesPoetryAcademic Resources

  • I advocate a free and responsible search for truth and meaning.

  • I advocate the inherent worth and dignity of every person. This includes advocating justice, equity, compassion, and nonviolence in human relations. The goal of my value system is a world community characterized by peace, liberty, and justice for all persons. I believe that we must all work together, without regard to (but with respect for) our individual backgrounds, to create a better humanity.

  • I advocate the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process in social and interpersonal interactions.

  • I respect the interdependent network of all existence of which every person is a part.

  • I advocate free and challenging dialogue regarding every conceivable topic.

  • I advocate helping others participate in society and form organizations, in part because doing so strengthens one's own ability to participate and organize.

  • I advocate challenging social assumptions and roles and developing new or expanded roles that empower oneself and others.

  • I believe that a right action is an action that: benefits all persons involved; is honestly and fairly agreed to by all persons involved; and fulfills previously stated values.

Some of the ideas and/or words above come from the Unitarian Universalist Association, the Humanist tradition, and the philosophy of Immanuel Kant.
